Tehran__Iran is prepared to face any “reckless” Israeli actions that could escalate into war, as confirmed by Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. In an interview with China’s CCTV channel on Saturday, Araghchi stated, “We are fully prepared for the possibility of further Israeli attacks. I hope Israel will avoid such reckless actions, as they could lead to a large-scale war.”
On the topic of former U.S. President Donald Trump potentially returning to the White House, Araghchi emphasized that Iran would base its decisions on the policies of the incoming U.S. administration. He reiterated Iran’s commitment to a diplomatic path, stating the country would continue working with regional partners and allies, like China, to seek peaceful solutions to crises.
Araghchi also addressed the 2015 Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the nuclear deal Iran signed with six world powers. He expressed Iran’s willingness to engage in serious and constructive negotiations to return to the agreement, which involved lifting sanctions in exchange for limiting Iran’s nuclear program. He added that Tehran is ready to resume talks without delay if other parties show political will.
The JCPOA, originally signed by the UK, Germany, China, Russia, the U.S., France, and Iran, saw the U.S. withdraw under Trump in 2018. In response, Iran began rolling back some of its nuclear restrictions.
In a recent report, the International Atomic Energy Agency revealed that Iran plans to install more centrifuges at its Fordow and Natanz nuclear facilities, signaling the country’s continued push in its nuclear development.
